Emil Orlik: Design of a grave-stone

Design of a grave-stone
ink drawing, 1897
Sheet Size: 44.2 x 40.4 cm - (17½ x 16 inches)
signed and dated

Donated by us to the Jewish Museum in Prague, which has a very fine collection of Orlik paintings, drawings and prints
Prague has one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Europe and many grave-stones with designs similar to this can be found there; in the lower part of the sheet are labels which are probably those of the monumental masons
Orlik made a colour etching in 1898 titled Der alten Judenfriedhof in Prag (The old Jewish Cemetry in Prague)
