Bronislav Hubermann was a Polish born violin virtuoso who became celebrated thoughout the world. He fled the Nazis and went to Palestine in 1936 where he was the co-founder of the Palestine Symphony Orchestra. He owned the famous 1713 'Gibson' Stradivarius violin which was stolen from him at the Carnegie Hall, New York in 1936 and which reappeared dramatically in 1987
Hubermann is famous for his remark : " Brahm's Violin Concerto in D is a concerto for violin against the orchestra - and the violin wins"
