it is known that Orlik spent some months in Britain in 1898 and he made various character studies of London "types" and the well known colour lithograph "Bei Edinburgh" which was published in PAN; it is interesting to speculate on how he came to be in the the mill town of Wigan, near Manchester, which was noted for cotton textile production; in this drawing Orlik depicts a mine-head as there were many collieries in the region; in the title is the date 4.8.98
